Men Imitating Machines - 100% LIVE Dubstep
Men Imitating Machines are the shape of things to come in the realm of live performance-based electronic music.
Jarman Donohue (an exponent of slap bass and funk bass guitar) has come together with Matty O’Brien (a jazz trained drummer) to produce a 100% live set built with the foundations of dubstep, glitch-hop and broken beats. The boys use a MIDI bass guitar and MIDI drums to control two laptops, allowing them to shape a sound free of pre-programming and done totally on the fly. This coupled with a custom light and projection show making them very much a multi-media act.
Recent live shows at Every Picture Tells a Story (Docklands), Juicy Loops (supporting Rob Reng at the Mercat Cross), Real Propa (Step Inn- Brisbane) and of coarse at the infamous Melbourne haunt Miss Libertine, have seen an energetic performance from the guys resulting in broken drum trigger pads from relentless beating, cricked necks from head banging and sweat soaked three piece suits.
