Streets Alive Youth Arts Festival 2006

Sreets Alive was a ten day youth arts festival in Launceston, Tasmania in 2006, which involved over 10,000 young people from across the state, expanding their skills in a huge variety of unique arts projects.

The festival, auspiced by Interweave Arts Association (a non-profit organisation), was an outstanding example of sound events practice with regard to concept development, organisational structure, content and artist resources, project management and marketing.

Streets Alive offered a program of Master Classes for secondary students, involving a cross-section of contemporary art and street art forms. The classes exposed youth to sub-cultures such as hip hop, beat boxing, rapping and street art. Ghetto kitty was involved in this program teaching stencilling, and at the conclusion of the master classes collaborated with the Die Laughing collective and the students to paint a large mural on an ugly wall on the side of a business in the middle of town. Kitty also did some live spraying at the festival club after party.
